A Traveller's Guide

Through the City of Petra

with Nataliia

'I've dreamt of visiting this place so much, I can't believe we are finally here! I've promised myself to see all Seven Wonders of the World with my own eyes... so here's just one of them.'

Although the first thought one thinks of when they hear about the City of Petra would be from Hollywood blockbusters such as Indiana Jones and The Mummy Returns, there is immeasurably more to this city than its beautiful architectural feat. Petra is considered to be a bucket list destination that one should ‘see before they die’. It is rich in history, mystery, mythology and wonder. Located amidst rocky desert valleys and mountains in what is now known the Kingdom of Jordan, Petra was once a flourishing trading floor and the center of the Nabataean kingdom between 400 B.C. and A.D. 106.

In 1985, the city was acknowledged as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 2007, it was declared as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Hello Nataliia. Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

'I’m a Mama who started travelling with my child since he was two months old. Not because we’re crazy travelers, hah! (of course we are! haha) but mainly because of my husband’s job. I have been to 32 countries, however my son, Sky has only been to 15 so far. I can pack my whole family’s luggage in two hours and I know exactly what essentials we need to take in our travel backpacks! If you need any travel advice for your future trips, you are very welcome to ask!'

Where to stay?

'Unfortunately, Petra is a very small city - it's like a village. There aren't many choices when it comes to hotels but your best bet would be Movenpick Resort Petra.'

Things to do

'Definitely a visit to the Petra Museum and The Lost City!

Another activity you can do is to have a relaxing walk through the city and ask some Bedouins to organise a local dinner for you at the rocks at sunset - seriously such an amazing and unbelievable experience which you can never experience in the crazy urban life. By the way, don't forget to take warm clothing with you because it's really cold and windy in the evening.

Oh! And also the Camel ride, too!'

Let's talk about one of your travel highlights the treasury

'The Treasury is the most famous attraction in Petra. It's interesting because it isn't actually a treasury but a tomb of a Nabatean King. Rumours have it that this site could also be a temple to store some sacred documents. Interesting, huh?'

What to wear?

'You have two options: to wear something regular and boring or to wear @trudelizares and attract tourist attention - attention that's even more than this Wonder of the World! Haha

Sneakers shall be an obligatory part of your outfit since there's a lot of walking involved. Also remember that during the Summer your outfit should be light and breathable, but of course at Winter, you should prepare warm clothes only.'
